WOLF CREKK PASS- On Sept. 8, at approximately 1:40 p.m., South Fork Fire Rescue crews responded to Highway 160 Mile Post 176 for a semi crash. The semi was hauling propane. While on standby during the investigation, fire crews also provided traffic control.

According to Colorado State Patrol Officer Bryan Bouet, “Vehicle one, a Monte Vista Coop Propane truck, was headed eastbound on Colorado Highway 160. The vehicle lost control on the wet pavement and rolled one-quarter time onto its passenger side. The semi continued off the roadway sliding through the pullout and impacted some trees. Then continued sliding for a short length, coming to final rest on its passenger side. The driver was transported for injuries and treated at Rio Grande Hospital. Colorado State Patrol HAZMAT responded to the scene and secured the tanker.”

The semi remained on the side of Highway 160 until late Monday night when local tow companies were able to extract the vehicle. The highway was closed for a considerable amount of time, blocking long lines of traffic on both sides of wolf Creek Pass. The highway was finally opened later in the evening and crews were able to successfully remove the semi without incident.
