Wolf Creek Ski Area now open for weekends

By Lyndsie Ferrell
WOLF CREEK- Avid skiers hit the slopes this past weekend to enjoy the first few inches of powder at Wolf Creek Ski Resort for the 2019/2020 winter season. Guests gathered at the bottom of the Nova and Magic Carpet lifts to be some of the first to hit the slopes and slide down in style as many were dressed for the Halloween celebrations. There was even a haunted house for skiers to travel through as they made their way to the slopes.
The entire state was covered in snow throughout the beginning of the week, bringing six to 10 inches in some areas while the Valley welcomed anywhere from two to five inches in the higher country. It was a great way to say goodbye to fall and welcome winter.
The resort has been working all summer long preparing for what they are hoping to be another great season on the mountain. Between new solar power, new lifts, new runs and everything in between it is shaping up to be a great season and now all they need is snow.
According to the snow report, there is a base of 11 inches with a year-to-date snowfall total of 22 inches. The resort will be open on weekends only from Oct. 31 until snow accumulation reaches acceptable depths in order for the rest of the area to open 100 percent. Wolf Creek will be closed Monday through Friday, but reopen Saturday, Nov. 9, and Sunday, Nov. 10, for skiing and snowboarding. The business office will be open Mondays and Fridays.
The Nova Lift, Wolf Creek’s Beginner Chairlift, and the Magic Carpet, will reopen Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 9, and 10 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Nova Lift will give access to 4 of 133 named runs next weekend.
Lift tickets will be $31 for ages 6 and older. Children five years and younger are $6. The Ticket Office opens at 9:30 a.m. The Wolf Creek Ski School will be available, Saturday and Sunday, for both adults and children, including the Wolf Pup Program. The Ski Rental, Boarder Dome and Treasure Sports will also reopen.
The Wolf Creek Lodge will reopen with a delicious lunch menu, prepared by the leads chefs, next weekend. The menu is inclusive of the fresh salad bar, a variety of delectable fried foods, Wolf Creek’s famous Santa Fe style green chili, classic cheeseburgers and other upper lodge specialties.
