DEL NORTE— A 17-year-old is in custody and a male victim in the hospital in serious condition after a shooting Thursday night in Del Norte.

According to Del Norte Police Department Sergeant Frank Archuleta, a juvenile male and another male in his 20s, both Del Norte residents, had an altercation Thursday night. The altercation became heated, and the juvenile apparently had a handgun, with which he shot the victim.

The juvenile then took off, and authorities apprehended him within a couple of hours. He is currently in custody.

The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. in the 600 block of Oak Street in Del Norte.

Sgt. Archuleta said the victim is currently in serious condition at SLV Health in Alamosa, and the shooting is still under investigation.

The initial pending charge on the juvenile male is assault in the first degree, according to Sgt. Archuleta.
