DEL NORTE — On Feb. 8, the school counselors at Upper Rio Grande School District distributed awards to individuals that have helped them in their career, who have helped students and their families and the community. The following individuals/organizations were recognized:

Del Norte Elementary PTO

Del Norte Elementary PTO has been one of the bridges between the Elementary and families. The PTO has worked hard this year and has done outstanding work in bringing in family members to volunteer. These volunteers have made days easier for teachers, especially during holiday parties. DNES PTO has also given teachers a sigh of relief by going around and offering snacks or soft beverages.

Amy Duda, Del Norte Elementary Principal

Amy Duda recognizes the importance of school counselors in the Upper Rio Grande School District. She has consistently advocated for the sustainability of school counselors and has allowed the school counselors to have the most direct time with students. Because of Duda, 100 percent of students, kindergarten through sixth grade, receive social and emotional lessons. These lessons teach students self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. Duda was also recognized by the Colorado School Counselor Association (CSCA) as Advocate of the Year in 2018.
