RIO GRANDE COUNTY— According to a statement made by Rio Grande County Sheriff Brian Norton, on Friday, Oct. 6 at 7:11 p.m. the Rio Grande County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a possible shooting at 6943 County Rd. 5 East, north of Monte Vista.
Responding deputies arrived on scene and entered the residence and found Leonard Leyba, a 45-year-old male, along with Frank Leyba, a 19-year-old male, both of whom suffered gunshot wounds in a room in the residence.
Frank Leyba was transported from the residence by the Center Ambulance with a single gunshot wound in the head; he was pronounced deceased at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa.
Leonard Leyba was pronounced deceased at the scene.
This is an active investigation being conducted by the Rio Grande County Sheriff’s Office. There is no cause or evidence at this time to think the public’s safety is in jeopardy.
