South Fork Kiwanis cancels Thanksgiving Dinner, Yuletide celebration still a go

SOUTH FORK- It has been a tradition in South fork for several years to provide a Thanksgiving Dinner to the entire community. Over the years, this event has brought hundreds of people together to share a meal, laugh with family and friends and get to know their neighbors but unfortunately this year, due to COVID, the event will not take place.

South Fork Kiwanis member Karen Miller confirmed the cancellation this week stating that it was for the safety of the community that the organization made their final decision. “We serve a majority of elderly people in our area and though we are sad that we can’t provide a meal this year, we know that it is for the best.”

COVID-19 cases are on the rise here in the Valley and many people to turning back to best practices to keep everyone safe. Miller also stated that the organization would also not be hosting their annual Christmas parties for schools around the Valley but again hope that those things will be possible next year.

On a good note, the annual Yuletide Celebration hosted by the Friends of South Fork will be taking place this year on Nov. 27. The event has become an area favorite since its inception four years ago. The Friends of South Fork are asking anyone who wants to decorate their vehicle and participate in the Parade of Lights can email their interest to [email protected] or send them a message on Facebook.

The event will include a tree lighting ceremony, parade of lights and much more which is the perfect way to set off the holiday season. More details about the event will be reported as they come available.
