SOUTH FORK- Over the weekend the South Fork area was host to a large group of Enduro racers that came to enjoy the great outdoors and to race toward success at the finish line. The Shady Burro Enduro was hailed as one of the best races the dirt bike community has had the privilege of racing so far this year and the event offered not only beautiful scenery but also a chance to have a good old-fashioned dirt bike race that was both challenging and rewarding.

The Shady Burro Enduro in partnership with the Rocky Mountain Enduro Circuit was able to work closely with local Forest Service, CDOT and town officials to create a successful event for the fourth time. Racers who participated in the two-day event spent the weekend in the San Juan Mountains buzzing over courses set to challenge racers of all abilities and offer them the opportunity to experience the Colorado backcountry like never before.

One participant spoke of the wildlife they had the opportunity to see including a bear and a moose for the first time. Others spoke about how unique the area is with the diverse landscapes and beautiful scenery that could not be found anywhere else in the world.

Planning for the event this year took a turn when the COVID-19 pandemic grabbed center stage, but thanks to the efforts of the organization’s coordinator Scott Bright and his team, the Shady Burro Enduro pulled off the event in a safe and respectful manner.

“The event went really well. We sold out and had to turn some last-minute riders away so I really think we are developing an event that people really want to participate in. We are working really hard to leave the forest in the same shape if not better than when we found it and we have some trails that need work this year in order to achieve that. Our COVID response was very well received and people abided by the state and local requirements,” said event organizer Scott Bright.

Plans for next year are already underway and everyone is looking forward to the next event. Bright continued, “We really love South Fork. It is an amazing area and we want to thank the town and Rio Grande County for welcoming us. We want to make this an annual event and promise to treat your backyard as if it is our own. We strive to do right by the community and by the Forest Service and be good stewards of the forest.”

With another successful event in the books, Bright and his team are eager to continue the tradition and the positive feedback from both participants and riders well into the future!
