SOUTH FORK — The Shady Burro Enduro once again made a splash in South Fork over the weekend and now that the motorcycle racing is complete, there is work still to do. In keeping true to their promises, the Shady Burro crew headed out with Rio Grande National Forest officials and trail volunteers on Monday morning after the race to repair any damage that riders may have caused.

“We really had a great weekend. Our riders did a fantastic job but there will be some work to do, and we are more than happy to do it,” said Shady Burro Enduro coordinator Judd Barlow.

Due to recent heavy rain in the area of the race, Barlow and his team worked with US Forest Service officials just days before the race to put a remediation plan into place should some of the trails become damaged. Though the possibility of canceling was a near miss, the Shady Burro Enduro came up with a good enough plan that the Forest Service allowed the event to happen. 

Now, with race results online and the remediation work well underway, the participants are beginning to once again rave about the course and the experience riders had throughout the weekend and it is once again being dubbed one of the best courses on the enduro circuit.

The Shady Burro Enduro also announced that it was able to donate $5,000 of its proceeds from the event to the Trails Preservation Alliance which helps to promote good trail stewardship locally and across the state. They use the funding to help repair and preserve trail systems in and around South Fork. 

A huge advocate for trail preservation, the Shady Burro Enduro has donated to the alliance for several years now and has formed a tight partnership that benefits both organizations in several ways. One of the main goals for the Rocky Mountain Enduro Circuit is to spread education on good trail stewardship and trail maintenance through programs such as the Trail Preservation Alliance.

Plans are underway for next year’s event and the Shady Burro Enduro team thanked the volunteers for their help in putting on another successful event and for the positive feedback and support from the South Fork community.
