DEL NORTE — During the Del Norte High School football game on Saturday, Oct. 21, the Rise Above Booster Club presented Coach Dan Roach with a scale that will be used by the wrestling and football teams of the Upper Rio Grande School District.

Booster club President Yolanda Martinez and Nicole Martinez presented the scale to Coach Roach after weeks of running the concession stands with other members of the club.

“We have worked for about six weeks to raise enough money to buy the scale. We know how hard these students and coaches work and it is something we are really happy to do,” said Martinez.

In addition to running the concession stands, the youth booster club also held a 50/50 raffle that helped provide funds for the scale. “Most of the people who participated in the raffle donated their winnings back to the club which was just amazing. We have good people in this community, and they show their support whenever they can,” continued Martinez.

The Rise Above Booster Club is an active part of the district, bringing parents, coaches and students together for several different activities and fundraisers. The club typically raises funding for the Rise Above Tackle Club in years past but has since branched out to help the high school teams as well.

The club consists of President Yolanda Martinez, Vice President Janet Ortiz, Secretary Nicole Martinez, Treasurer Michele Velasquez, and members at large Crystal Martinez, Geraldine Trujillo, Steven Martinez, Brooke Calkin, Terry Phillips, Tiffany Cardova and Blare Britt.

The club will be raising money this winter through concessions and other activities like the 50/50 raffle to buy baseball bat and helmet holders for Voss Field so be sure to look for them in future sporting events!
