La Llave offers support for fathers, grandparents

SAN LUIS VALLEY—Nurturing Father’s Program offers fathers an opportunity to learn from each other and build skills that will help them to create strong and meaningful relationships with their children.

La Llave Family Resource Center will offer the Nurturing Father’s Program in Center at the Academic Recovery Center on Oct. 11. Classes will go from 5:30-8 p.m. and a meal will be provided. Please contact Chance at La Llave for more information on this class.

Grandparenting

Many grandparents around the Valley have found themselves in the position of raising a second family and struggle to find support that truly applies to their living arrangement.

La Llave Family Resource Center will offer an Active Parenting Grandparenting group from Oct. 12 through Nov. 16 in Del Norte to try to help grandparents who are raising young children. There are many reasons that have brought grandchildren into their grandparent’s home when their parents are not able to continue raising them. As these households increase in number, Rio Grande County and La Llave Family Resource Center have decided to offer support and bring grandparents together to share and learn from each other.

Raising a second family can be challenging financially, emotionally and physically. Active Parenting will provide support and tools to help address those challenges and offer techniques to help the children who have often experienced trauma and challenges. The group will offer compassion, encouragement, and support in grandparent’s day-to-day needs that come with raising a child today.

Groups will be held from Oct. 12 through Nov. 16 from 5 – 7:30 p.m. at High Valley Community Center in Del Norte; childcare and meals will be provided. Please contact Toni at La Llave Family Resource Center, 589-9688 for more information on the group.
