DNHS track and field competes in Ignacio

IGNACIO— Out-pacing 3A Bayfield’s Zeb Shields (left), 3A Montezuma-Cortez’s Wes Atcitty and 2A Ignacio’s Tyler Barnes (red), Del Norte sophomore Logan Cestone zooms through the third turn and into the frontstretch, en route to winning the 400-meter dash at the 2019 Abel Velasquez Invitational this past Saturday, April 6, at IHS.
Cestone clocked 54.01 seconds for the distance, and earned 10 of the ninth-place Tigers’ 28 team points. He also added four points with a fourth-place 18’11.5” long jump, and joined sophomores Issac Peerman and Kyle Dahle, plus senior Samuel Lorenz to score six in the 1,600m relay with a third-place time of 4:05.29.
The Lady Tigers, meanwhile,placed fourth with 53 team points—most via second-place efforts in the 200m (Kiela Madrid, 29.07), 800m relay (Molly Cavett/Emberly Spearman/Kaeci Madrid/Ki.Madrid, 2:00.95), 1,600m relay (Cavett/Audrey Plucinski/Ka.Madrid/Ki.Madrid, 4:55.74), high jump (Gabby Jones, 4’8”) and pole vault (Ka.Madrid, 8’6”).
