Del Norte students join Clay Target League

MONTE VISTA— Friday afternoon Del Norte’s students held a practice to sharpen their skills for their upcoming competition.
Trap shooting is a competitive clay target shooting sport. With a shotgun, competitors take aim at targets, which are launched from a central machine. Trapshooting has made its way to the global stage since having been introduced into the Olympics in 1900.
Getting the ball rolling Del Norte has joined the Colorado State High School Clay Target League. Through their trapshooting league, Del Norte will be going to Del Monte Gun Club weekly to compete against their league for the next five weeks. As part of Conference 1 the Tigers will be competing against the likes of Caliche, Classical Conversions-Monument and Prairie High School.
At the end of the five weeks Del Norte will get a chance to compete for state. June 9 the Colorado Clays Shooting Park in Brighton, Colo. will play host to the Colorado Trap Shooting State Tournament. Del Norte will start their first week of competition this Friday, April 27 at 10 a.m.
