Del Norte Public Library receives grant

DEL NORTE- The Del Norte Public Library has been approved for a grant through the CARES Act funding that has been being issued to organizations and governmental bodies throughout the state. The library was eager to share their news with patrons just in time for their annual book sale which took place Saturday, Aug. 1.

The library will be using the funds to expand their current technology and provide additional services to the public. The Del Norte Public Library applied for this grant through the Rio Grande Library District and will be purchasing new laptops, chrome books, audio books, tablets and improve their checkout system with the $7,200 they received.

In the meantime, the library spent the majority of the morning Saturday celebrating with their patrons through their annual book sale, which according to Director Susan Williams, was a smash hit. “It went a lot better than we originally expected. We had several board members come out to help set up and we were able to purge a large number of books. We made about $700 that will be used for the library. We are so grateful for the outcome, especially since we didn’t have our typical crowds that come for the Covered Wagon Days.”

The library is open Monday through Wednesday from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from noon to 5 p.m.
