Del Norte Chamber to host annual Scarecrow Bash

The annual Del Norte Chamber Scarecrow Bash will kick off in the next few weeks as fall makes an appearance in town.

DEL NORTE— The annual Scarecrow Bash in Del Norte is only weeks away and the Del Norte Chamber is reminding everyone to get ready. Residents and businesses who wish to participate in this year’s event need to register online at the chamber website on or before Oct. 1.

The annual event has gained speed over the last few years and is quickly becoming an area favorite event. The town of Del Norte is laden with scarecrows of all shapes, sizes and designs that add to the ambience of fall in the Valley. Several businesses up and down Grande Avenue including the Del Norte Bank, Del Norte Public Library, Kathy’s Fabric Trunk and more participate every year and the hope is to have even more this coming October.

The rules are simple; participants must create a unique, homemade scarecrow to display in front of businesses and homes. The public is invited to join in on the fun and vote for their favorite display online at www.delnortechamber.org. There will be three business winners who will receive Chamber Baskets and three residential winners that will receive Del Norte Chamber Bucks that can be used at any local participating business.

When participants register for the bash, they will be added to a map of scarecrow locations around town that will be handed out to anyone who wants to drive around and view the displays. The map can be picked up at the High Valley Community Center or by visiting the website listed above.

Those participating will need to have their scarecrows up and ready by Oct. 7 and keep their displays up until Oct. 18 when the contest will close, and awards will be issued to winners.

The chamber is also getting ready for the annual Oktoberfest. This annual event has also gained speed over the years and what was once a small, adult gathering has now become a family friendly event that includes not only local brews and food but fun, games and entertainment for the entire family.

The event takes place on Friday, Sept. 27 from 5 until 10 p.m. This year there will be a $5 entry fee for adults 17 and up with children will be free of charge so make sure to bring the entire family. There is also a $30 package that includes admission, two drink tickets, a custom mug and T-shirt.

More information pertaining to the Oktoberfest event will be reported as it comes available. There will be food provided by 1874 Food Truck, Colorado Grille, Gosar Sausage and Three Barrel Brewing Company. Mark the calendars and come to Del Norte for some autumn family fun.
