Bobcats defeat Tigers 40-0

...

The Tigers dipped to 1-4 overall, 1-3 SPC, while the Bobcats improved to 3-2, 3-2.  Del Norte’s coronavirus-abbreviated 2020 campaign is set to conclude this Friday at home, as the Tigers picked up a 1 p.m. nonconference test against Gunnison (3-3, 3-2 1A Western Slope), playing out its first varsity slate since 2017.

DNHS Reliable

RELIABLE: Even in a tight spot such as this, with Ignacio’s Gabe Tucson (11) threatening to stop the run for little to no gain, Del Norte senior Isaac Peerman (26) never went down without a fight as the Tigers played on the road this past Friday, Nov. 13.  Peerman achieved 150 yards rushing, but DNHS (1-4, 1-3 1A Southern Peaks) never advanced nearer the end zone than the Bobcats’ 13-yard line—which they twice reached—in a 40-0 defeat.  Ball control proved critical; Ignacio (3-2, 3-2) recovered four fumbles and also intercepted one pass, while Tiger freshman Josh Gonzales’ fumble recovery with 7:31 left before halftime was the visitors’ lone takeaway.  Del Norte’s coronavirus-abbreviated 2020 campaign is set to conclude this Friday, Nov. 20, at home; the Tigers picked up a 1 p.m. nonconference test against Gunnison (3-3, 3-2 1A Western Slope), playing out its first varsity slate since 2017.

DNHS In a hurry

IN A HURRY: Del Norte junior quarterback Malachi Gallegos (6) attempts to evade Ignacio’s Clint Talamante-Benavidez while scrambling out of a collapsed passing pocket during 1A Southern Peaks Conference road action this past Friday, Nov. 13, at IHS Field. This first quarter play resulted in Gallegos being intercepted—which then positioned the Bobcats to log the game’s first score—and he would leave the game early in the second stanza, injured on a sack by IHS’ Joe Garcia (who’d also made the aforementioned pick and soon ran in the initial TD). DNHS (1-4, 1-3 SPC) ultimately fell 40-0 to Ignacio (3-2, 3-2).

DNHS Thinking on his feet

THINKING ON HIS FEET: Del Norte freshman Jace Pacheco (8) rolls away from Ignacio’s Gabe Tucson (11) during 1A Southern Peaks Conference road action this past Friday, Nov. 13, at IHS Field.  Pacheco was pressed into duty after a second quarter injury to starting junior Malachi Gallegos, but nearly led the Tigers to three scores—via drives lasting eight, eight and 14 plays.  The lengthiest march consumed roughly 10:30 of the 12-minute fourth quarter but died on downs at the Bobcat 23-yard line—allowing Ignacio (3-2, 3-2 SPC) to clinch a 40-0 shutout over DNHS (1-4, 1-3).
